The Buddha’s Death

 

Scene 1

Buddha and his faithful friend (Ananda) wanders around the world teaching truth about life.

Act 1: Entry of the people India.

Indian:    Buddha, we sentient beings are bound by the worldly sufferings. Dear, Saintly Master, please, bless us, let suffering rid us.

Buddha: This is Karma, Karma is the truth. Life has inevitable sufferings, because there is the cause of it. But you should know, there is end of it. The lead to the end of suffering shall depend on your actions.

Act 2: Exit of people of India and entry of demons.

Buddha: Ananda, my faithful friend and disciple, the journey has been long, blessings are unlimited. Let me meditate here for a while.

Ananda: As you wish, the Saintly Master. (set place to meditate)

Demons: Its time for a yummy dinner (perform demonly dance and enter)

Buddha: (Meditate calmly, without hindrance)

Ananda: Buddha, Buddha, please protect me. The deadly demons are nearing. (show fearful act)

Buddha: Ananda, Ananda, my Ananda, calm down…! Until the end of flourishment of my teaching, the evils shall not have power to harm on it and its practitioners. Calm down Ananda.

Scene 2

Buddha and his faithful friend (Ananda) wanders around the world teaching truth about life. They will come across waltzing flowers with beautiful forest.

Act 1: Buddha and Ananda will continue walk. Angels will make entry.

Angels:   Move around showing waltzing flowers with heavenly music.

Ananda:  (Ananda enjoys gleefully) Dear Saintly Master, the blossoms of fruit trees out of season with lovely fragrance lent. The flowers and sandal-powder from heavenly angels, and the heavenly music…wow…what a blessing. Thank you, dear Buddha.

Buddha: “Tis not thus, O friend Ananda!

                     That the Buddha’s honour best.

                 Not by flowers or sandal-powders,

                   Not by music’s heavenly strains,

               Is the soul’s true worship rendered,

                  Unless are these things and vain!

              But the brother and the sister,

                 Man devout and woman holy…

              Pure in life, in duty faithful, …

               They perform the worship truly!

 

Ananda: (Ananda prostates three time)

 

Scene 3

Buddha and Ananda will continue wandering.

Act 1: Entry of mother with death baby.

Mother:  Buddha, the enlightened one. Please bless my baby and bring him back to life. It is difficult to live life without him.

Buddha: Dear mother, this is samsara. To know what you deed in the past, look at your present body. To know where you will go in future, look at your present actions. One cannot bypass the fate…mother…

Mother: (gets blessing and exit)

 

Act 2: As night fall, the saintly Buddha will sleep in suffering, sick and wan. Entry of a Brahman

Buddha: Ananda, I am old and wan now. Let me take rest here from this life. Its time now…

Ananda: (weeps) Master, you have to stay to bless the sentient beings…

                  (Brahman will make entry)

Ananda: (anxiously Ananda will stop him)

Buddha: Ananda, he who comes to seek for wisdom shall not come to me in vain.

Brahman: (gets blessing)

               (All cast will enter)

Buddha: I am grown old, Ananda, full of years; my journey is drawing to its close. Ananda, be your lamp to yourself. Rely on yourselves, and do not rely on external help. The bless ones, be a light unto yourself.

“All weeps and curtain closes”
